Resumption of natural gas condensate transfer

July 26, 2022 - As of Tuesday, July 26, 2022, Noordgastransport (NGT) will resume the transfer and transport of natural gas condensate to Rotterdam. This condensate runs through NGT's pipeline during the production of natural gas in the North Sea.

Loading activities will temporarily be shifted to location Uithuizen, where the condensate will be transshipped in trucks that are equipped for this purpose. On July 25th 2022, the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands granted an environmental permit for this. This is a temporary solution, that will last as long as loading activities at the Roodeschool site are halted. The importance of continuity is considerable because the loading of natural gas condensate is crucial for keeping the NGT pipeline in the North Sea open. Through this pipeline, some 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas are brought ashore from the Dutch North Sea every year. This is equivalent to about 7.5% of the total demand for natural gas in the Netherlands'. If NGT would not be able to resume the loading of condensate, the NGT pipeline would have to be shut down this month. Obviously, this would have negative effects for the energy supply of the Netherlands. That is why NGT has done everything in its power to prevent this from happening and to allow the loading to resume. The protection of the environment, as well as the safety of our employees have the highest priority at NGT, regardless of the location of operations and the mode of transport.
